Jürgen Knubben in seiner Eröffnungsrede am 14.09.2007 zur Ausstellung Florin Kompatscher im Forum Kunst Rottweil: … Es sind aber nicht nur die Farben und ihre Substanz, die für die Malerei Kompatschers von großer Bedeutung sind, es sind die Themen, die er in seinen Bildern beschreibt. Dabei spielen Zitate der Kunstgeschichte so sehr eine Rolle wie die Auseinandersetzung mit der Jetztzeit. … Immer aber pendelt die Malerei zwischen Figuration und Abstraktion. In feiner klassischer Ölmalerei nähert er sich immer deutlicher in seinen neuen Bildern der gegenstandslosen, der absoluten Malerei. Doch das Fundament der Malerei Kompatschers bildet das Phänomen der Landschaft. Wenn man genau hinschaut, sind Bergformationen, Täler und Schluchten, sind Felsen und Flussläufe auszumachen. Das Landschaftliche scheint dabei zu explodieren, sich unendlich im Bild und darüber hinaus auszubreiten. Alles ist nur angedeutet, zitiert. … Seine Landschaften erinnern geradezu an unberührte Natur, sind aber bewusst gestaltet, komponiert. Es ist eine Landschaftsmalerei, die als subjektiver Ausdruck der Seele des Künstlers zu entspringen scheint. …Kompatscher ist aber in keinem Fall ein reiner Romantiker, Surrealist oder auch naturbesessener Idealist, der rückwärtsgewandt alles Vergangene beschwört. Er arbeitet gleichsam mit ironischer Feder, um das Gegenwärtige in den Blick zu nehmen, die Wirklichkeit zu durchleuchten auf eine Zukunft hin, die Natur und Kultur wieder mehr ins Gleichgewicht versetzt. Die ganze Unternehmung vollzieht sich aber nicht mit erhobenem moralischem Zeigefinger, sie ist still und unverkrampft, sie ist spielerisch und selbstbewusst. Florin Kompatschers Malerei ist angesiedelt zwischen Apokalypse und Utopie. Er ist ein Grenzgänger der Malkunst.

Internationale Ausstellungen seit 1985, zuletzt Purple & Asphalt, Forum Kunst, Rottweil (2007), Alles Andere ist wahr, Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum, Innsbruck, Die Lange Heimat, Kunstverein Heilbronn (2006). Seit 1986 enge Zusammenarbeit mit der Galerie Elisabeth & Klaus Thoman, Innsbruck, 2007 mit fünf großen Bildern für Open Space Art Cologne juriert.

From the speech by Jürgen Knubben at the opening of the exhibition by Florin Kompatscher at Forum Kunst Rottweil on 14 Sep 2007: … It is not just the colours and their substance, though,that are of crucial importance to Kompatscher’s painting, it is the topics he describes in his pictures. Where quotes from art history play as much of a role as the confrontation with the present. … The painting, however, at all times oscillates between the figurative and the abstract. His new pictures, in fine classical oil painting, more and more clearly approach abstract, absolute painting. Yet the foundation of Kompatscher’s art is the phenomenon of the landscape. When we look closely, we can make out mountain formations, valleys and gorges, rocks and rivers. But these landscapes appear to explode, to expand endlessly inside the picture and beyond. Everything is just hinted at, quoted. … His landscapes almost remind us of untouched nature, are deliberately set out, though, composed. This is landscape painting that, as subjective expression, seems to spring directly from the artist’s soul. …And still, Kompatscher at no point is a pure romantic, a surrealist or also an idealist obsessed with nature who, backward-looking, conjures up everything that is past. He wields an ironical pen, as it were, in order to take a look at the present, to examine reality in view of a future that redresses the balance between nature and culture. The whole undertaking is not inspired by a moralist stance, though, it is calm and relaxed, it is playful and self-confident. Florin Kompatscher’s art occupies a place somewhere between apocalypse and utopia. He is forever extending the borders of the medium of painting.
Florin Kompatscher was born in 1960 in Bolzano/Italy and has been living in Berlin since 2003. 1981 to 86 Academy of Applied Arts, Vienna. International exhibitions since 1985, most recently Purple & Asphalt, Forum Kunst, Rottweil (2007); Alles Andere ist wahr, Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum, Innsbruck; Die Lange Heimat, Kunstverein Heilbronn (2006). Working closely with Galerie Elisabeth & Klaus Thoman, Innsbruck, since 1986. Contributed with five large paintings to Open Space Art Cologne in 2007.
